Jacinta Price: Position gone, questions remain

How Indo-Aussies actually vote | Julian Leeser apologises | Indian Link on the ABC | Syd Olympics silver jubilee | Jacinta? More like Aunty Joshna | Hindi diwas poetry

Jacinta Price’s crash course in “How to Lose a Job in Eight Days” came to a head yesterday (10 Sept) with her removal from the Opposition frontbench.

Her ill-judged rant on 3 Sept about Indian migrants being Labor’s imported vote bank backfired spectacularly, and her stubborn silence sealed the deal. Yet, for us, this feels less like closure and more like an intermission...

If nothing else, JacintaGate has reminded us that in 2025, no community deserves to be maligned en masse.

So how do we, Australians of Indian origin, move forward? By doing what we have always done - working hard, contributing fully, and ensuring that on history’s page, at every stage, we advance Australia fair.

Senator Jacinta Price claimed that 85% of Indian-Australians vote Labor.

But Indian Link’s pre-poll surveys across the last three federal elections tell a different story - revealing the reality of the community’s vote and cutting through the myths.

“TOO MANY INDIANS.”

That was the rant Aunty Joshna made in the gulab jamun line at a Bengaluru wedding.

Now she’s saying something similar in faraway Australia.

Our weekly classic: which movie is this scene from?

Heyy, nice to still see you here - the answer to this week’s riddle is: ‘your breath’.

Ahead of Hindi Day on 14 Sept, ARNAV SONI, 9, of Mala Mehta’s IABBV Hindi School in Sydney, presents Kab Tak Humein Rokoge - an uplifting poem carrying the promise of tomorrow, and celebrating the power of language to inspire.

At Sydney Fringe, they’ll be saying a LOT because this powerful show takes on domestic violence through the magic of Indian classical dance, music, and poetry. Bold, moving, and absolutely unmissable.
