An offhand remark from a friend has stayed with me this week. She wondered how to explain the war in the Middle East to her young kids.

We thought about it together and came up with this: “Sometimes countries disagree. Sadly this time, disagreements have turned into fighting. It’s serious, and many people are trying to make it stop. Our role is to stay safe, be kind, and remember that people there are going through a very difficult time.”

Did we get it right?

How would you have approached it?

But whether they divide us depends on how we respond here at home.
